DOUG BARNES

Doug Barnes, 68, of Murphy, died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, in a Chattanooga, TN, medical center.

 

A native of McMinnville, TN, he had lived in Cherokee County for the past 27 years. He was the son of the late Lowell and Addie Madewell Barnes. Doug was general foreman of Coats American in Marble from 1981 to 1993, when he retired to pursue a life of woodturning. Doug was President of the Brasstown Woodturners Guild for many years. He was the Resident Artist in Woodturning at the John C. Campbell Folk School and was instrumental in pursuing the dream of a fellow woodturner in getting the new woodturning studio built.

 

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Marsha Lyn Barnes; three sisters, Brenda Cantrell and husband, Gerald, of Union Grove, AL; Diane McCullough and husband, Jim, of Cumming, GA; and Deborah Binkley and husband, Rick, of Goodlettsville, TN; two brothers, Coleman Barnes and Clay Barnes and wife, Patricia, all of McMinnville, TN; an Aunt, Earlene Doak of McMinnville, TN; and a cousin, Patricia Mullican of Davonport, FL.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, August 30, in the Keith House at the John C. Campbell Folk School with Nick Cook officiating.
